Women’s Golf Moves up to Finish Third at Patsy Rendleman Invitational

SALISBURY, N.C. – With three golfers carding season-low rounds, the Anderson women's golf team posted its best round since joining the South Atlantic Conference in 2010 and jumped up one spot to finish third at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational.

The two-day tournament was hosted by Catawba at the 5,793 yard, par-72 Country Club of Salisbury.

Lenoir-Rhyne led wire-to-wire and earned the team title by six shots over Limestone, with the Trojans moving past Queens to take third place, just two shots behind the Saints. Tusculum finished fourth, with North Georgia claiming fifth place.

Young Harris and Carson-Newman each climbed up one spot into sixth and seventh, respectively, with Queens slipping from third into the eighth slot. Erskine finished 10th, with the host Indians, Coker, North Greenville, Belmont Abbey, Barton, King, Chowan and Pfeiffer rounding out the 17-team field.

North Georgia's Megan Sabol overcame a one-shot deficit by firing a 4-under-par 68 during Tuesday's final round to win individual medalist honors by three strokes over runner-up Abbey Hartsell of Lenoir-Rhyne. L-R's Chelsea Mansell finished in a tie for third, alongside Candler Kimsey of Young Harris. North Greenville's Savannah Hallman, the first-round leader, slipped into a share of 10th place after carding a final-round 78.

Sophomore Kate Hill led the Trojans with a two-day, 6-over-par 150 and finished in a tie for 13th. Junior Makalyn Poole, who began the day just three shots off the pace in a tie for fifth, slipped to a tie for 16th place alongside classmate Tiffany Elam, who carded a season-best 75 on Tuesday. Senior Riley Lovorn also fired a season-low 75 in Tuesday's second round and finished in a five-way tie for 20th.

Freshman Anna Freeman trimmed five strokes off her first-round scorecard and jumped from a share of 45th place into a tie for 30th on the strength of a career-best 75, with junior Samantha Ellison posting a two-day 162 and finishing in 60th place.

After a two-week layoff, the Trojans will get back on the links at the Flagler Fall Slam in St. Augustine, Fla.
