Women's Golf Team Leads Upstate Classic

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- The Anderson University women's golf team shot its highest score of the spring -- 368 -- in windy and cool conditions at the Cherokee National Golf Club, but the round was good enough for the first round lead in the Limestone Upstate Classic. Anderson leads host Limestone (375) and St. Andrews Presbyterian (379). Katie Clayton of Limestone shot an 84 to take the lead after the first round. Alessandra Maurtua of St. Andrews is in second place, three shots back. Anderson's four scores in the first round were Sophie Dembroski 89, Erin May 89, Carlie Eastman 95, and Jenny Fretwell 95. The second round will be played Tuesday.
