USC Upstate Women Capture Invitational Title

ANDERSON, S.C. -- USC Upstate claimed three of the top four individual positions on its way to the 2006 Anderson University Invitational title Tuesday at the Brookstone Meadows Golf Club. The Lady Spartans shot 313 in the second round to finish the 36-hole event with a total of 620, 32 shots better than second-place Tusculum (652). Wingate (663) was third, and host Anderson (668) was fourth. Four of USC Upstate's players finished in the top six and all five finished in the top 17. USC Upstate's 620 total set a tournament record at the par-72, 6,000-yard Brookstone course. The previous record was 633 by West Florida in '04. Richia Wedzik of USC Upstate won the individual title. Wedzik shot a 78 in the final round for a 36-hole total of 153, one shot ahead of teammate Julie Miller (77-77). Beth Kirkham of Wingate (78-77) and Richelle Wedzik of USC Upstate (74-81) finished tied for fourth at 155. Katie Clayton of Limestone (78-78) was the final member of the all-tournament team. Anderson was led by senior Carlie Eastman, who shot 82 in the final round to finish in a three-way tie for 14th place at 166. Women - Anderson Invitational Final Results
