ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University outscored Erskine 23-14 in the final 6:35 to beat the Flying Fleet 75-66 in a Conference Carolinas game Thursday night at the Abney Center. There were 11 ties and 11 lead changes in the first 33 minutes before Anderson took a 55-52 lead on a 3-point basket by Alexa Neal with 6:35 to play. Erskine got within one point two times down the stretch but never managed to retake the lead. Anderson, 4-6 overall and 4-2 in Conference Carolinas, used a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 69-60 with 53 seconds remaining. Anderson's largest lead was 12 -- 75-63 -- with 10 seconds to play. The first half featured nine lead changes and five ties. A field goal by Keana Boyd with 1:38 remaining in the first half gave Anderson a 33-28 lead. But the Fleet go a field goal from Neci Allen and a 3-point goal at the buzzer by Audrey Timmerman to tie the game at 33 at the break. Anderson was led by Boyd with 24 points. She was followed by Nale with 13 points, Genia Holbrook with 11 points and 11 rebounds and Kirsten Peterson with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Timmerman, who was 8-for-13 from behind the arc, led all scorers with 32 points. Porsha Morgan chipped in 16 points for the Fleet, 5-4 and 2-3. Timmerman was the only Erskine player to make a 3-point basket. Anderson dominated the boards, 54-30. The Lady Trojans used 22 offensive rebounds to scored 25 second-effort points. Anderson shot 45 percent in the second half and 41 percent for the game. After shooting 45 percent in the first half, Erskine finished the game at 39 percent. Anderson was 11-for-14 from the line (79 percent) in the second half. For the game, Neal was 8-for-10 from the line.
