Former Anderson University basketball player Nikki Anthony has signed a contract with Herzogenburg, a Division I team in Austria. "I'm extremely excited and thankful for the contract," said Anthony, a native of Pickens, S.C. "This is the opportunity of a lifetime." Anthony will leave for Austria on Sept. 1. Her contract with Herzogenburg is a 10-month contract. "I had two offers from Holland, one from Germany, one from Finland, and one from Switzerland," said Anthony, who was the 2007-08 Conference Carolinas Player of the Year, an All-East Region selection, and an honorable mention All-American. "The package from Herzogenburg was definitely a better fit for me." Her new team will compete for the Austrian Cup, which is open to all divisions in Austria. "With the contract they gave me, I'm definitely going to have to produce and score," Anthony said. "I am one of two Americans on the team." Anthony, a highly decorated basketball player and volleyball player at Pickens High School, started her collegiate career at Florida State. After graduating from FSU, she transferred to Anderson to play her final year of basketball and led the Lady Trojans to a 28-4 mark, a Conference Carolinas regular-season title, and a trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
