ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's tennis team triumphed in a well fought match to defeat South Atlantic Conference opponent Lenoir-Rhyne; 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the AU Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Trojans move to 17-4 overall and 7-3 in conference play while Lenoir-Rhyne falls to 10-9 overall and 3-6 in SAC action. Anderson has won its last six of seven with the 2017 team now recording the most wins during a season under head coach Joey Eskridge (2009-present).
The Trojans enjoyed a 2-1 advantage after the doubles portion with No. 1 slotted Nicolas Ascarrunz and Jeffrey Dayton (AU) defeating Tomas Hons and Shane O'Dea (LR), 8-4 while Juan Carracedo and Preston Morpeth (AU) won 8-3 over Alex Crespo Sanchez and Tales Miranda (LR) at the No. 3 flight. Lenoir-Rhyne was able to pick up one point winning the No. 2 doubles match.
In singles action, the Black and Gold won four of the six matches with Morthpeth's 6-1, 6-1 win over Alex Ayguavives clinching the match for the Trojans.
The Trojans continue conference play when they travel to SAC opponent Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
