Trojans Struggle In First Round At Regional

WILSON, N.C. -- The string of sub-300 rounds for the Anderson College men's golf team ended at four Tuesday as the Trojans struggled to a 310 in the first round of the Atlantic Regional at the Wilson Country Club. The Trojans are in seventh place, 17 shots out of the lead entering Wednesday's final round. Host Barton shot a 293 in the first round to take a two-shot lead over Belmont Abbey. Pfeiffer is third at 299, Coker is fourth at 300, St. Andrews is fifth at 302, Queens (N.C.) is sixth at 308. Anderson was led by Kyle Owings with a 1-over 73 on the par-72, 6,800-yard Wilson Country Club course. Brad Eskierka, Curtis Norwood, and Andrew Corley all shot 79 for AC's other three scores. The individual leader after the first round is Josh Talton of Barton with a 69. Kevin Parris of Limestone, who is playing as an individual entrant, is second at 70, and five players are tied at 72. The final round will be played Wednesday morning. The regional champion receives a bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament in Orlando, Fla.
