Mollenhauer Wins Gold in the Fourth Islamic Solidarity Games

BAKU, AZERBAIJAN – Anderson University women's basketball freshman standout Alexy Mollenhauer recently competed in the fourth Islamic Solidarity Games for her home country, Azerbaijan winning the gold medal for Basketball 3-on-3 competition.

The Islamic Solidarity Games is a multinational, multi-sport event which involves the elite athletes of the Organization of the Islamic Conference. The Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) is the organization that is responsible for the direction and control of the 10 day event. The fourth edition of the games, brought together the 57 members of the ISSF with this year's event taking place in the Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan.

Mollenhauer was chosen by the Azerbaijan women's team coach Tatayana Slojenitsina to represent their country. They competed against teams from Turkmenistan, Algeria, Mali and Afghanistan in a half-court setting in an arena which has the capacity for 1,500 spectators.

Azerbaijan defeated Mali, 13-7, in the gold medal game with Mollenhauer contributing four points and three rebounds. Mollenhauer scored a total of 18 points and recorded 17 rebounds leading up to the gold medal contest.

During her freshman season, Mollenhauer excelled both on the court and in the classroom. The Trojan guard earned South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year honors while carrying a 4.0 GPA for the academic year in Secondary English Education.
