Trojans Slotted Ninth in Second NCAA Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA released its second regional rankings Wednesday afternoon with Anderson University moving into the No.9 slot, after not appearing in the week one rankings, in the Southeast Region with a 19-5 overall record against Division II competition.

The selection committee uses these rankings as a guideline to make up the NCAA Tournament field. The top eight teams in the region make the NCAA Tournament with three automatic bids going to the winners of the conference tournaments from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference.

Columbus State claims the No. 1 spot with Lincoln Memorial, the top team in the South Atlantic Conference, positioned second. Clayton State checks into the third position with Limestone ranked fourth. SAC member Wingate is ranked No. 5 with Lander sitting in the sixth slot. King and Mount Olive are ranked seventh and eighth, respectively with the Trojans moving into the ninth spot. Rounding out the top 10 is North Georgia from the Peach Belt.

Anderson has an opportunity to shake up the poll with a road contest tonight at No. 2 Lincoln Memorial followed by a Saturday home contest versus No. 5 Wingate.

The final regional poll prior to the selection show will be released in the afternoon on March 1.
