Women’s Basketball Slips to No. 8 in D2SIDA Media Poll

DURANGO, Colo. - As the 2016-17 regular season opened for the majority of Division II this past weekend, Anderson University women's basketball went 1-1 in its season opening weekend, dropping three spots to No. 8 in the Southeast Region Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, announced by the regional committee on Monday.

Augusta University and Columbus State are two of the teams within the top-10 to have not yet played a regular-season contest this season. The rest of the top-10 has played at least two games following the opening weekend of the season.

Limestone still controls the top spot following its split against South Atlantic Conference opponents over the weekend, while Lander remained second with a win and a loss against SAC opponents. Clayton State made the biggest leap in the poll, moving from eighth to third following its victories over Anderson and Wingate. The Bulldogs slipped from third to fourth, as Wingate claimed its opener against Armstrong State before falling to Clayton State.

Following Wingate is Newberry moving up from the ninth slot, while Francis Marion drops to the sixth spot. Augusta remained in the seventh spot after an idle weekend, just ahead of Anderson. Columbus State slipped four spots without playing a contest to the ninth position with North Georgia working itself into the top-10 after not being ranked last week.

King(4) received votes and just missed the top-10, with Mt. Olive(2) also receiving votes, but fell out of the top-10.

The Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, is in its third year of existence. The regional poll is released every Monday, followed by the national poll every Tuesday. Each region has six representatives that comprise the regional poll. The national poll has 16 voters - 2 from each region.

The Trojans return to the hardwood on Wednesday when they host archrival Erskine. Tip-off from the Abney Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.
