Women’s Basketball Set to Host Opening Round of SAC Tournament

ANDERSON, S.C. - After posting its third consecutive 20-win season, the Anderson University women's basketball team is set to host the quarterfinal round of the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Tournament, which is set to begin on Wednesday at the home sites of the higher seeds.

While claiming the No. 2 seed after upending league leading Lincoln Memorial and Wingate last week, the Trojans are set to host seventh-seeded Catawba at the Abney Athletic Center beginning at 7 p.m., Wednesday. The winner of the quarterfinal matchup will head to the semifinals against the winner of Game 4 of third-seeded Wingate and sixth-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne.

Tickets for Wednesday's quarterfinal games at the Abney Center are $8 for adults, $4 for youth (12 and under), senior citizens, and active and retired military personnel. Admission for college students with college ID is $2, while children under the age of five are admitted free.

The AU ticket window will open at 6 p.m.

Following the quarterfinals, the remainder of the tournament will be played at Furman University's Timmons Arena with the semifinals being played on Saturday and the championship round slated for Sunday. Tickets for the semifinal rounds on Saturday and at Furman's Timmons Arena are $15 for adults, $8 for youth (12 and under), senior citizens, and active and retired military personnel and college students with college ID, while Sunday's ticket prices range from $12 for adults and $6 for children, senior citizens, and active and retired military personnel and college students with an ID.

Children under the age of five will be admitted free to both the semifinals and finals.

Second-seeded Anderson will be looking for its second victory over the Indians this season, after splitting the season series with a 77-63 set-back at the Abney Center on Dec. 17, followed by a 74-69 victory at the Goodman Gymnasium on Feb. 11.

The Trojans are currently ranked No. 9 in the Southeast Region and look to move up after defeating No. 2 Lincoln Memorial and No. 5 Wingate this past week. The rankings for the week are scheduled to come out on Mar. 1.

The winner of the SAC Tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament at a site to be announced later.

The 2017 South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Championship quarterfinals will be played at campus sites on Wednesday, March 1 before moving to Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C. for the semifinals and finals on March 4 and 5. The South Atlantic Conference's Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament. The Conference Championship schedule is as follows:
