No. 36 Trojans Earn 5-2 Senior Day Victory

ANDERSON, S.C. – The #36 Anderson Trojans (13-3, 9-2 SAC) notched their fifth home win of the 2023 season over Catawba (6-12, 4-7 SAC) by a 5-2 score Wednesday afternoon. Prior to the match, AU honored each of their four seniors, Aaron Cabo, Julian Kenzlers, Heimanarii Lai San, and Spencer Snow

"It was a good team win today against a tough Catawba team," said AU Head Coach Joey Eskridge. "It was senior day, so we got to celebrate. We were playing with two guys out of our top six, but our bench players are coming in and doing great work for us, helping the team win. Proud of the boys and hopefully we can take this momentum into next week and do some damage at the tournament. Go Trojans!"

AU opened play by taking a hotly contested doubles point. Snow and Patrick Cronin started fast with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 position. Cabo and Greyson Doscotch then clinched the point soon thereafter with a 7-5 victory at No. 1. Afterward, the Indians took the remaining doubles line on court 2.

Once singles began, Doscotch was the first to put up a point for AU, at No. 3. After jumping out to a 6-1, 5-2 lead, the Trojan denied a comeback attempt to take the second set and the match. However, a Catawba win at the No. 5 position cut the team lead to 2-1.

Sophomore Juan Sengariz grabbed the momentum back for AU by  a convincing 6-2, 6-3 score at No. 1, but the Indians claimed a three-set win at No. 2 to tighten things back up.

With the Black and Gold just a point away from victory, sophomore Chambers Easterling battled through a grueling two-set match for a 6-4, 7-6(3) win at the No. 4 spot. He was followed by Cronin, who was able to bounce back from a tight second set to win 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 6.
