Sengariz Battles Top-Ranked Opponent, Trojans Fall to No. 6 Columbus State

ANDERSON, S.C. – The  No. 31 Anderson Trojans (12-3, 8-2 SAC) were defeated 6-0 by the No. 6 Columbus State Cougars (10-4, 3-0 Peach Belt) on Thursday afternoon. The loss marked the first time AU has dropped back-to-back regular season contests since the 2018-19 season. On the other side, the Cougars scored their ninth win over a ranked opponent this year.

With the looks of inclement weather on the horizon, the teams played the singles matches first. CSU was able to take the first five singles matches in straight sets before a battle ensued at the No. 1 spot.

Sophomore Juan Sengariz was able to take the first set from Columbus State's Santiago Perez. However, the No. 1 singles player in the country was able to come back for a hard-fought 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 win despite the best efforts of Sengariz. The loss was only Sengariz's third of the season, with two of those losses coming against ranked opponents.
