No. 21 Trojans Kick Off Spring Season Saturday

ANDERSON, S.C. – The 21st-ranked Anderson Men's Tennis team (3-0) is set to travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to meet the Converse Valkyries (1-0) in their first match of the spring season. The Trojans will be competing against their third consecutive Conference Carolinas opponent after defeating Emmanuel (GA) and North Greenville in the fall. The Sally Abney Rose Complex in Spartanburg, S.C. will play host to the match.

Last Time Out

AU ended their fall schedule with a dominant 7-0 win over North Greenville. All six singles matches were sweeps by the Trojans, as well as the 3 doubles matches. Senior Aaron Cabo proved too much for his opponent at No. 5 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. The No. 2 doubles pair of sophomore Juan Sengariz and senior Julian Kenzlers blanked their opponents 6-0 6-0.

Last Time vs. Converse

The Trojans and Valkyries last met on February 13, 2022 in Anderson, a 7-0 AU victory. Anderson swept all three doubles matches by 6-2 scores, before rolling through all six singles matches. Cabo, Sengariz, Kenzlers, and junior Greyson Doscotch were among those who recorded both singles and doubles victories.

Scouting the Valkyries

Converse returns all six starters from a year ago, and adds four freshmen to the roster. A year ago, the Valkyries finished with a 10-11 team record in their inaugural season, and a 5-5 mark in Conference Carolinas play. Following a 3-5 start, the team rebounded to win 7 of their last 11 matches. This season, Converse won its lone match of the fall, a 4-3 road victory over SAC opponent Mars Hill.

The Valkyries are led in singles by sophomore Merlin Bellet. The Frenchman posted a 13-5 record at No. 1 singles last season, including wins against four teams with national rankings. In doubles, Converse was paced by Leopold Morel and Louka Queguiner, who went 9-4 as a No. 1 doubles team.

Anderson opens up their home schedule on Saturday, February 11th with a battle against 11th ranked North Georgia. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Trojan Tennis Complex.
