No. 31 Trojans Host Catawba on Senior Day

ANDERSON, S.C. – The No. 31 Anderson Trojans (12-3, 8-2 SAC) look to get back on track following a pair of recent losses to ranked opponents when they take on the Catawba Indians (6-11, 4-6 SAC) on Wednesday. Senior day ceremonies will take place immediately before the 2:00 p.m. start time.

Who: #31 Anderson Trojans (12-3, 8-2 SAC) vs. Catawba Indians (6-11, 4-6 SAC)

Where: Trojan Tennis Complex, Anderson, S.C.

Time: 2:00 p.m.

Last Meeting at Anderson: Anderson won 7-0 on March 22, 2021

Last Meeting at Catawba: Anderson won 7-0 on February 6, 2022

Series History: Anderson leads, 8-2. The Trojans have won the last three meetings.

 

WHAT'S AT STAKE

For Anderson:

  • A win would keep the Trojans at the No. 3 seed in the SAC standings
  • A 4th straight win over Catawba

For Catawba:

  • A win could place the Indians back into contention for the No. 8 seed in the upcoming SAC Tournament
  • A first win in Anderson since 2017

 

LAST TIME OUT

AU was defeated by No. 6 Columbus State last Thursday. Despite the best efforts at No. 1 singles by Trojans sophomore Juan Sengariz, the Cougars swept all six singles matches. Sengariz took the first set from the No. 1 singles player in the country, but dropped a 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 marathon match.

 

SALUTING THE SENIORS

    • Has the most wins of any player on AU's current roster
    • Reached 50 conference wins earlier this season
    • Earned a nod onto the SAC Third Team Doubles in 2022
  • Julian Kenzlers (Herten, Germany)
    • Has combined for more than 50 total wins during his time at AU
    • Was part of a doubles pairing with partner Juan Sengariz that posted a 10-1 record in 2022
  • Heima Lai San (Papeete, French Polynesia)
    • Has posted unbeaten records in both singles and doubles this season
    • Teamed with Patrick Cronin and Kenzlers for the trio of doubles wins
  • Spencer Snow (Simpsonville, S.C.)
    • Has among the most singles wins of any player on the active roster with 20
    • Teamed with Cronin for a strong 4-1 doubles record this season

 

A LOOK AT CATAWBA

  • The Indians have rebounded from a tough stretch to end the month of March.
    • Following a four-match losing streak, Catawba has won two of their last three matches.
  • Catawba currently sits in the 9th spot in the SAC standings (just outside of the SAC Tournament) if the season were to end today.
  • Marcus Castares headlines the Indians' singles at the No. 1 position, with 8 wins on the season. The senior carries a three-match winning streak into play.
  • In doubles, Catawba has found success at the No. 3 spot from Sebastian Zabala and Taketoshi Nanao. The team has a 6-3 record on the season, including a recent four-match winning streak.

The Trojans wrap up regular season play with a Friday road match at No. 23 Wingate. Match time in Wingate, N.C. is set for 2:00 p.m.
