Women’s Cross Country Places Sixth at Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - With eight runners posting season-best times, freshman Alex Dixon led the Anderson University women's cross country team to sixth place at the Charlotte 49er Invitational Friday evening at McAlpine Creek Park.

The 6K event saw Savannah College of Art and Design capture the top spot, while Tennessee Wesleyan took home second. Mars Hill and Wingate claimed third and fourth, respectively, while West Alabama edged Anderson for fifth place.

USC Beaufort was seventh, while UNC Pembroke took eighth. Converse, Pfeiffer, Limestone, Columbia, Brevard and Johnson C. Smith rounded out the 14-team field.

Dixon's season-best time of 23:32.4 was good for 15th overall, while sophomore Olivia Gardner was just behind in 17th with a season-best time of 23:34.5. The next four Trojan runners also garnered their fastest times of the season, with sophomores Bari Robinson (24:57.0) and Mia Swiersz (25:09.6) crossing the line in 42nd and 45th, respectively.

Sophomore Grace Gerlock claimed 54th in a time of 25:23.9 and freshman Allison Halperin (25:28.7) garnered 56th. Sophomore Amber Worthy finished 64th in a time of 25:43.8, while freshman Taylor Morris brought home 69th in a time of 25:58.3. Senior Sydney Hazel took 73rd with a time of 26:12.5, with freshman Haylee Love (26:29.7) finishing 78th and redshirt junior Devan Fisher (27:17.8) crossing the line in 90th.

The Trojans return to McAlpine Creek Park in two weeks for the Royals Challenge, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte.
