CLEMMONS, N.C. -- The Anderson men's golf team slashed 14 strokes off its first-round score and sits in the clubhouse alone in 13th place following the second day of action at the Will Wilson/Southeast Regional Preview, hosted by Belmont Abbey College at the par 70 Tanglewood Park Golf Club-Championship course Monday afternoon. The Lander men's golf team fired a second round score of 283, one stroke fewer than Barton, to capture the lead. Belmont Abbey, which led by two strokes after the opening round, carded a 292 today, two shots fewer than yesterday's total, but Lander fired a 283 and Barton recorded a 284 to move ahead of the Crusaders. Lander's Charlie Hoyle and Flagler's Chris Bray tied for the low round of the tournament, posting scores of 66. Hoyle opened with a 72 and Bray opened with a 73. Hoyle is tied for the individual lead with Barton's Thomas Muto, Jr. with two-day scores of 138 (two under par). Bray is one shot back. They are the only three players in the 87 player field under par. Anderson equaled the second-largest improvement of the 16 teams in the tourney and the Trojans (616) are within striking distance of St. Andrews (611) as well as Erskine (609) and Wingate (609) which share 10th place heading into Tuesday's final round. Anderson sophomore John Moore (152) improved by two strokes over Sunday's round and still holds a share of 41st with his second-round 75, while sophomore Chase Epting (154) also shot two better than his opening round, carding a second-round 76 and shares the 51st spot. AU freshman Thomas Harper (155), who slashed seven strokes off his first-round 81, moved into a tie with Kenny Shockley (155) at 55th, while junior Aaron Acord (172) shares 84th after shooting a second-round 85. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will wrap up tomorrow afternoon.
