AUGUSTA, Ga. - Freshman Spencer Earle tossed a complete game four-hitter to lead the Anderson University baseball team to a 6-1 win past Peach Belt-opponent Augusta State, Thursday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

Anderson (8-19), playing its second non-conference road game in as many days, claimed its second straight win en route to sweeping the season series with the Jaguars. Augusta State slipped to 8-17 with the loss.

For the second consecutive day, senior third-baseman Blake May led Anderson at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and two singles, while also scoring twice and driving in a run. Sophomore Shawn Delmontagne notched a pair of singles in four trips to the plate and recorded a season-high three RBI, with freshman Brett Cash also recording a pair of singles and scoring once.

Earle (3-2), a 6-foot-4 right-hander, recorded his first career complete game by scattering four hits over the nine innings and striking out five, while issuing just two walks.

Rob Crosby (0-2) absorbed the loss for Augusta State, giving up six earned runs off 10 hits over seven innings.

The Trojans took an early 2-0 lead, as Cash led off the game with a single to right and outfielder Zach Reeves was hit by a pitch. May loaded the bases by singling to right and Delmontagne delivered a two-out two-RBI single with the bases loaded.

Anderson added a solo run in the second inning when May lifted a one-out sacrifice fly to left that was deep enough to score Ben Pendleton from third.

The Trojans increased their lead to 4-0 in the fifth, with May leading off the frame with his seventh double of the season down the left-field line. Delmontagne again came through in the clutch, ripping a two-out single to right-center to plate May.

Reeves and May led off the seventh inning with back-to-back singles to left and both crossed the plate on Paul Como's double and Erick Sanderson's bouncer to short, boosting AU's advantage to 6-0.

Augusta State got one of the runs back in the bottom of the frame off a one-out solo homer to left off the bat of sophomore Jeff Rice, but Earle settled down to strike out two of the next three Jaguars to get out of the inning.

Anderson welcomes South Atlantic Conference-foe Lenoir-Rhyne to Memorial Stadium for a three-game series, starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
