The Trojans scored first, scoring a run on Scarberry's first double of the contest in the top of the second frame. Erick Sanderson led off with a single and scored on the two-bagger.

Andre Rodriguez countered for the Railsplitters in the bottom of the second stanza with a two-run, two-out homer to put LMU on top 2-1, but AU answered with four runs in the third and three in the fourth frame to build an 8-2 cushion. Scarberry's two-out two-RBI single highlighted the thirds inning and capped the scoring.

Anderson added to its lead in the top of the fourth by loading the bases with one out in the inning and cleared the bases with Sanderson's double to establish the six-run lead.
The Trojans tacked on three more runs in the seventh and eighth innings, highlighted by Reeves' solo home run to lead off the eighth.
