Anderson Wrestlers Fall to UNC Pembroke

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson wrestling team battled but fell in the annual Battle for the Carolinas Collegiate Champion Belt with rival UNC Pembroke, 37-15, Friday night at the Abney Athletic Center.

The Trojans garnered a 12-0 advantage after UNC Pembroke forfeited the opening two bouts, but the Braves closed the gap with a pin at the 4:51 mark of the 141-pound bout.

Anderson sophomore 149-pounder DanTelhada answered for the Trojans, rallying from a second-period deficit to notch a takedown of UNC Pembroke's Kristoff James late in the third period to pull out a narrow, 4-2, decision to boost AU's lead to 15-6.

But UNC Pembroke claimed the final six bouts, two by forfeit and two by pins to earn their second consecutive win past the Trojans.

Anderson will get back on the mats quickly, as the Trojans will compete in the Newberry Open on Saturday.
