GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Anderson baseball team recorded a season-high 14 hits, including a pair of solo home runs as the Trojans defeated No. 20 Limestone, 6-3, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field.

Anderson (2-3) never trailed en route to winning its second straight, while Limestone slipped to 1-2 on the young season and has dropped two of three to start the season.

Freshman Brett Cash put the Trojans on top early, belting his first collegiate home run, a solo shot over the right-field wall to lead off the top of the first inning. But the Saints answered quickly, as KJ McAllister led off the bottom of the frame with a single to center, stole second and moved to third on a groundout. He crossed the plate to even the score at 1-1 on Chad Balderman's two-out double in the gap to left-center.

The Trojans regained the advantage with two runs in the second, as senior Brett Scarberry extended his hitting streak to three games with a one-out single to left. Sophomore Josh Hickman followed by reaching base on an error and moved into scoring position while Scarberry moved to third. Fellow sophomore Zach Reeves singled through the left side to score Scarberry with the go-ahead run and Hickman crossed the plate on Cash's one-out sacrifice fly to right, giving AU the 3-1 edge.

Limestone evened the score at three apiece with a pair of runs off two hits in the bottom of the third.

But Anderson answered again, snapping the deadlock with a two-out rally in the top of the fifth frame, as senior Thomas Padro ripped a one-out single to right and went to second when Blake May grounded out to third. Erick Sanderson followed with his second hit of the afternoon, a single through the right side, that plated Padro from second to give the Trojans a 4-3 edge after 4 ½ innings.

The Trojans added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth to claim a three-run lead on the strength of Hickman's first homer of the season with one out and a two-out single by May that plated Reeves.

Hickman reached base three times, scored twice and recorded an RBI, while Reeves finished with two singles on the afternoon. Sanderson was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, while Scarberry notched a pair of singles in four at-bats. Cash added the homer and two RBI and Padro was 2-for-5. May extended his hitting streak to five games with the sixth-inning single.

AU freshman hurler JT Trujillo tossed six complete innings, while allowing three earned runs off seven hits and striking out five.

Freshmen Hayden Crompton and Landon Beck combined with senior right hander Riley McDermott to shut the Saints' offense down over the final three frames, with each tossing an inning of no-hit baseball. McDermott earned his second save on the season.

The Saints' Preston Glew absorbed the loss, surrendering a run off three hits in an inning of relief.

Anderson continues its six-game road swing with three-game series against another Conference Carolinas opponent on Saturday, when the Trojans visit Coker College. Saturday's twinbill is slated to start at 1 p.m., with Sunday's wrapup scheduled for 1 p.m. as well.
