GREENWOOD, S.C. - Lander freshman Weston Lawing's sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the fourth inning brought home the lone run of the contest, as the 30th-ranked Bearcats edged Anderson, 1-0, in non-conference baseball action Wednesday night at Dolny Stadium.
Anderson slipped to 13-33 on the season, while Lander improved to 28-12.
The Bearcats loaded the bases in the fourth when senior AJ Nunziato led off with a double, designated hitter Kevin Starr singled and senior Jordan Owens was hit by pitch. Lawing followed with his sacrifice fly to plate Nunziato with the game-winning run.
Sophomore Zach Reeves notched two of the four Trojan hits on the
night with a pair of singles.
Brandon Miller (6-1) earned the win on the mound for the Bearcats,
striking out six, walking one and allowing two hits in five
complete innings. Ross Davis earned his sixth save of the season
after striking out one in one inning.
Anderson freshman Spencer Earle (3-5) took the loss after striking out six, walking two and allowing one earned run on three hits in six innings. Sophomore Kyle Francis tossed two innings of hitless baseball in relief, while striking out three.
Anderson closes out its road schedule with a three-game South Atlantic Conference series at Brevard. First-pitch for the opener on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Gil Coan Field.
