ANDERSON, S.C. - Using a four-run fifth inning, the Anderson University baseball team opened a four-game homestand by rallying for a 7-5 win past Augusta State in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at a soggy Memorial Stadium.

Anderson (5-12) used 17 base hits to tame the Jaguars, who slipped to 6-10 on the season.

Down 1-0 in the third inning, Anderson struck for two runs off four base hits. The first run came off of a Josh Hickman single that scored senior Brett Scarberry. The second run came off the bat of Jonathon Romano when he singled to score Tony Price.

Augusta State struck back in the third inning, retaking the lead with three runs. The Jaguars used two base hits and capitalized on two Trojan errors to take the lead back.

But Anderson tied the game with another Hickman RBI single in the fourth inning - his second RBI of the contest.

The Trojans put the game out of reach in the fifth inning, scoring four runs off four base hits. The big blow came from a two-RBI single off the bat of Hickman that scored Erik Sanderson and Scarberry. The base hit left Hickman with 10 RBI on the season and fourth of the game.

Hickman finished 3-for-4 with four RBI - a career high for the freshman. Romano recorded two RBI on the afternoon, finishing 2-for-4. Sanderson notched the game's other RBI, bringing his total to 15 on the season.

The Trojans used eight pitchers on the afternoon. Freshman JT Trujillo started the game for the Trojans, giving up one in one inning pitched. Spencer Earle picked up his second win of the season as he pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Riley McDermott closed the game out for Anderson - bringing his saves total to three on the year.

Anderson will get back on the diamond this weekend, as league-leading Tusculum invades Memorial Stadium for a three-game South Atlantic Conference series. The Trojans and Pioneers square off in the first game on Friday at 6 p.m.
