Men's Golf Team Slides Into Fifth Place

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- The Anderson University men's golf team dropped from second place to fifth place in the second round of the Atlantic Regional Tuesday at The Point Golf Club. Host Belmont Abbey posted a 293 in the second round for total of 587 and a 12-shot lead over second-place Barton (307-292). Mount Olive (311-296) is third, Coker (306-302) is fourth, and Anderson (303-307) is fifth. Rounding out the field are Fayetteville State at 611, Pfeiffer at 635, and Virginia State at 646. Connor Tomlinson shot a 1-under 71 in the second round to hold on to the individual lead. Tomlinson stands at 3-under 141 after two rounds. Chip Lynn of Fayetteville State (74-69) is second, and Daniel Castleberry of Barton (77-70), Adam Sheriff of Anderson (73-74), and Jerel Whiting of Virginia State (73-74) all are tied for third at 147, and Kurt Owings of Anderson (76-72) is sixth at 148. Owings led Anderson is the second round with a even-par 72. Starting on No. 10, Owings had one birdie and one bogey in the first nine holes then recorded nine straight pars on the front nine. Sheriff carded five birdies but also suffered two double bogeys on his way to a 74. Anderson's other two second round scores were Ryan Sprayberry 78 and Will Ferguson 83. The second round will be played Wednesday morning. The first-place team will receive a bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament next week at Houston, Tx. Atlantic Super Regional -- Second Round
