Women’s Soccer Adds Two More to the 2017 Recruiting Class

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer second-year head coach Julie Davis Carlson has added two more signees to her already impressive 2017 recruiting class. Carlson is looking to build off of a 2016 season where the Trojans team advanced to the postseason for the fifth time in six seasons.

The Black and Gold welcome new signees Anne Katherine Hodge (Inman, South Carolina/Landrum High School) and Fanny Karlsson (Solleftea, Sweden/Solleftea Gymnasium) who will be joining Lauren Allan (Newcastle, New South Wales/Butler Community College),Kirsten Armetta (Berlin, Connecticut/Northwest Catholic), Havon Ashy (Greenville, South Carolina/JL Mann High School), Gabbie Fleming (Liberty Township, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame High School), Anna Kwiatkowski (Waxhaw N.C./ Cuthbertson High School), Madison Paige (Linden, Michigan/Linden High School), Cassidy Wheaton (Charlotte, N.C./Community School of Davidson) and Alexis Williams (Fort Mill, South Carolina/Fort Mill High School) on the team for the upcoming campaign.

Name: Anne Katherine Hodge

Position: Defense

Hometown: Inman, South Carolina

Previous School: Landrum High School

Club: Carolina Elite Soccer Association

Hodge comes to the Trojans as a standout from Landrum High School. Hodge was twice named Region II-A Player, twice to the All-Area Team and named Athlete of the week during the 2016 season. Hodge has also served as a team captain and been named as the team MVP over the past three seasons. As a student, Hodge served as a Junior Marshall, attended Palmetto Girls State and served on the Student Council for four years.

Carlson on Hodge: "Anne Kate is a serious, tough competitor. She is committed 100% to her training and her development day in and day out. She takes charge of her role and has tremendous leadership potential. She is tough in a tackle and continues to improve her technical platform and game sophistication. She is a very bright, charismatic young lady and a true follower of Christ. Anne Kate is a wonderful addition to our already quality recruiting class. Anne Kate is devoted to her academic successes and is superior in the classroom."

Position: Midfield

Hometown: Solleftea, Sweden

Previous School: Solleftea Gymnasium

Previous Coach: Leif Medin and Stig Vigren

Club: Remsle UIF

Leif on Karlsson: "Fanny is an ambitious player and is always trying to get better. She has a good shot and good game intelligence. Fanny is a loyal team player with great leader characteristics. Fanny is an all-round player with a great physique and she can cover a lot of ground."

Karlsson joins the team from Sweden where she played on a district championship team which played in the first round of the Swedish Cup. Before suffering an injury, Karlsson scored five goals in a 10 game stretch.

Carlson on Karlsson: "We are delighted to add Fanny to our squad this fall. She comes to us with a great knowledge of the game, the athletic and technical platform of superiority that will really take our midfield to another level. She has terrific vision, playmaking ability and the ability to get in behind and be dangerous in the goal area."
