Women’s Soccer Wins 4-0 Over Erskine

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer earned both the team's first win of the season and the school's first points towards retaining the coveted Beville Cup with a decisive 4-0 victory over archrival Erskine Thursday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

With the victory, the Trojans improve to 1-0 on the season outscoring the Flying Fleet 27-1 dating back to the 2010 campaign.

Anderson scored four first half goals starting with Preseason All-SAC selection Alaina Gay's goal at the 8:43 mark. The Black and Gold controlled all aspects of the match outshooting the Flying Fleet 23-2 with 10 of the Trojans' shots coming on goal.

Sophomore Lyssa Engle scored at the 30:11 mark followed by senior Tina Shakes, assisted by Gay on a corner kick at the 33:06 mark. Within a minute later, Gay scored her second goal of the young season on a 25 yard shot from the right side.

The Trojans look to return to the pitch on Saturday when they continue nonconference action against Southern Wesleyan. Kick-off from Trojan Stadium is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
