Women’s Soccer Announces 2016 Schedule

Women’s Soccer Announces 2016 Schedule

ANDERSON, S.C. – After advancing to the South Atlantic Conference semifinals for the second straight season, the expectations are just as high in 2016 as Anderson University women's soccer coach Julie Davis Carlson has announced her 2016 schedule.

The 2015 squad completed one of the most successful seasons in program history, winning a total of 14 contests surpassing the previous school record of 12, set by the 2009 conference tournament runner up team.

The 2016 women's soccer schedule features six non-conference matches, including a second match against SAC opponent Tusculum that will count as a non-conference contest in mid-October and 11 conference matches.

Carson-Newman won both the SAC regular season title and the SAC tournament championship with Anderson handing the Eagles their only conference blemish in 2015, winning 2-1 in early October. The Trojans are set to square off with the defending champions on Oct. 3 in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Davis Carlson on the upcoming season: "We are very excited about the schedule this fall. In the non-conference segment, we will be challenged in many ways. It will allow our staff to get a good feel for our team to prepare for SAC match play as well as quality measures playing national contenders, such as Georgia College and Armstrong State which will be important for future rankings. The exciting elements of this season is being able to take what we learned in our attack and growth as a team with a new coach this past spring and carry it into this fall. The conference this year will continue to be competitive and show parity in the ranks. The standard for this team has been raised by last year's success and with the foundation of the program returning, we are very excited about moving further with our regional ranking and conference tournament successes."
