Trojans Could Not Answer Early Second Half Goal

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University women's soccer team could not respond to an early second half goal by Tusculum losing its first South Atlantic Conference match, 1-0, Saturday afternoon.

With the loss the Trojans fall to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference action while Tusculum improves to 5-2-2 overall and 3-0-1 in SAC play.

Anderson and Tusculum played a fairly even first half with Tusculum narrowly outshooting the Trojans 7-6. The Black and Gold were able to get off three quick first half shots before the Pioneers could attempt their first. For the match, Tusculum outshot Anderson 15-13.

Making her second start in a row in goal for the Black and Gold, sophomore Bianca Porras made five saves in the opening half while Pioneer keeper Miriah Martin was able to make two saves in the opening 45 minutes.

Just three minutes into the second half, the Pioneers were awarded a corner kick after a save by Porras. Olivia Kilfogore finessed the ball in play to teammate Katja Andersson who drilled it from 12 yards out over the head of Porras to give Tusculum the 1-0 lead.

The Trojans continued to play solid throughout the half getting off five more shots but none found the back of the net.

Anderson begins a two match road swing when it visits Carson-Newman on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 5 pm.
