Trojans Win on Senior Day over Mars Hill; 1-0

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer continued its solid play winning its final regular season home contest Saturday afternoon, 1-0, against South Atlantic Conference foe Mars Hill.

With the win, the Trojans improve to 9-5-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the SAC while the Lions fall to 6-10-1 overall and 4-7 in conference play. The victory secures the sixth seed for the Black and Gold with the SAC Tournament set to begin on Tuesday, November 1st.

The Trojans were in attack mode the entire match, outshooting the Lions 23-4 with 14 shots coming on goal. Anderson had great opportunities in the opening half, but solid play be the Lions keeper Kaitlyn Danglemaier kept the Trojans scoreless. Danglemaier recorded seven saves before being removed due to an injury.

Despite only getting off four shots, the Lions missed two golden opportunities when Aleonya Hunter faced an open goal. Trojan defender Emilie Toftbjerg gave tremendous effort to get back and was able to block the sure goal. Hunter had another golden opportunity in the 76 minute with a one on one situation with sophomore keeper Abby Helm. Helm stood her ground and made a great save to keep the score at 0-0.

The Trojans continued to press and finally had a breakthrough when seniors Tina Shakes and Alaina Gay connected for the deciding goal in the 82 minute. Gay's goal was her fifth of the season and 10th of her career.

Anderson will hit the road for the opening round of the SAC Tournament as the No. 6 seed on Tuesday when it squares off with No. 3 Tusculum. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
