Gay Earns AstroTurf Player of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Leading Anderson University women's soccer to a perfect 2-0 start, senior Alaina Gay has been named AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 1-7, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Gay shined for the Trojans last week, scoring twice and adding an assistant in a 4-0 shutout over Erskine on Thursday, followed by a one-goal and one-assistant performance in a 5-0 rout of Southern Wesleyan on Saturday. With her three goals and two assists to open the season, Gay leads the conference in most points (8), tied for first for goals (3), and second in assists (2).

The Aiken, S.C. native becomes only the third Trojan to claim SAC Player of the Week honors joining Idoia Agirre who won the honor twice in 2015 and Lyssa Engle earned Co-SAC Player of the Week on Sept. 29, 2014.

Gay and the rest of the Trojans return to action on Wednesday when they hit the road to Tigerville to take on North Greenville. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
