Women’s Soccer at Catawba Ends in Draw; 1-1(2OT)

SALISBURY, N.C. -After falling behind 1-0 in the opening 45 minutes, Anderson University women's soccer was able to score the equalizer in the second half, settling with a 1-1 draw with Catawba in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday evening at Frock Soccer Stadium.

With the tie, the Trojans record their first draw of 2016 and first regular season draw since the 2014 campaign after setting a record for the most conference ties in the season with five in 2013. Heading into the midweek match, Anderson is now 7-4-1 on the season with a 4-3-1 mark in league play. On the opposite side, Catawba moves to 6-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 within the conference.

Despite the 1-1 draw, the Indians controlled the shot category 22-14 with 10 shots coming on goal. Sophomore Abby Helm recorded nine saves on the evening for the Black and Gold to help ensure the Trojans earn a valuable team point.

Catawba struck first in the 30th minute on a goal by Bree Roberts assisted by Shelby Vasich with the goal being Roberts first of the season.

After heading into halftime with the one-goal deficit, Anderson got itself back into the match in the 63rd minute on an unassisted goal from senior Tina Shakes, her ninth on the season.

Solid play by both backlines and keepers helped secure the draw with neither team allowing a goal in the final 47 minutes.

Anderson returns home on Wednesday to face SAC foe Queens. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Trojan Stadium.
