Women’s Soccer Picked Fifth; Gay and Dolan Honored by the SAC

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer has been predicted to finish fifth in the South Atlantic Conference Preseason Coach's Poll announced by the league office on Monday.

The Trojans are coming off of a record setting season winning 14 matches and tying their win total in the SAC regular season with eight. Despite losing four of the five All-Conference selections from a year ago, expectation are as high as ever.

Carson-Newman have been selected as the favorite to win the 2016 SAC Championship, earning seven first place votes and a total of 115 points. Wingate finished a close second with three first place votes and 112 total points. Also earning two first place votes was Lenoir-Rhyne landing the Bears in the third spot. Queens captured the fourth place spot while Anderson rounded out the top five. Tusculum collected 65 points placing the Pioneers in the sixth spot with Newberry landing in the seventh spot after tallying 59 points. Lincoln Memorial captured the eighth spot while Coker, Catawba, Mars Hill and Brevard rounded out the 2016 SAC Preseason Poll.

The preseason first and second teams were also announced today by the league office. Anderson garnered two players on the preseason All-Conference Team.

Senior forward Alaina Gay and redshirt junior midfielder Tera Dolan was placed on the Preseason All-SAC Second Team.

Anderson will open its 2016 campaign on September 1st when it host rival Erskine at 4 p.m. at Trojan Stadium.
