Women’s Soccer Suffers SAC Setback

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University women's soccer team could not erase a 3-0 first half deficient dropping its fourth conference match of the season, 4-1, against Queens on Wednesday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

With the loss, the Trojans fall to 7-5-1 overall and 4-4-1 in South Atlantic Conference action while Queens moves to 8-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

The Royals wasted no time getting on the scoreboard first in the opening 45 minutes. Miranda Dechant found Charlotte Ring which struck a perfect ball from 25 yards out that just nipped the fingertips of sophomore Abby Helms hand finding its way into the goal during the sixth minute of action. Queens was able to tack on two more goals at the 16th minute and during the 34th minute to give the Royals a 3-0 advantage heading into the half.

Anderson avoided the shutout when sophomore Megan Foster took the ball to her left shooting back across the goal and hitting inside the far post, cutting the Royals lead to 3-1 with 32 minutes to play.

In the 74 minute, Queens squashed any hopes of a comeback when Alana Jefferson found the back of the net to give the Royals a convincing 4-1 lead.

Queens outshot Anderson on the afternoon 19-10 with Helms recording seven saves in the defeat.

The Trojans jump back into action when they travel to SAC foe Lincoln Memorial on Saturday before returning home on Oct. 29 to end regular season play. Kickoff in Harrogate, Tenn. is set for 1 p.m.
