Women’s Soccer Suffers First Loss against Armstrong State; 4-1

MILLEDGEVILLE, GA. – Three first-half goals lifted Armstrong State past Anderson, 4-1, in the women's soccer 2016 Bobcat Shootout Friday afternoon in Milledgeville, Ga.

Anderson dropped its first match of the year, 3-1, while Armstrong State improves to 1-1 on the young season.

Armstrong State pressed the offensive attack early outshooting the Trojans 18-2 in the first half. The Pirates Amanda Green scored the first at the 9:38 mark to claim the early 1-0 lead while netting her second goal of the day just 10 minutes later to push the lead to 2-0.

The Black and Gold cut the lead in half at the 40:31 mark on senior Jaclyn Kubiak's pass to sophomore Hannah Liner who found the back of the net for the first goal of the match and Liner's first goal of her career. The Pirates pushed the lead back to two on an unassisted goal by Miranda Lucas right before the half ended.

The 3-1 score remained stagnant until Armstrong's Lauren Yoss's cross found Sarah Olin who put the shot into the back of net at the 85:21 mark to set the final score, 4-1.

Armstrong State held a 30-7 advantage in shots and a 10-2 edge in corner kicks.

Trojan keeper Abby Helm recorded eight saves, four in each half, in 90 minutes of action. The Pirates Erica Laurens garnered the win for Armstrong State, recording one save.

The Trojans will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they face Peach Belt opponent and Bobcat Shootout host Georgia College. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
