Trojans Blanked by Newberry; 2-0

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Despite getting off 17 shots with 10 coming on goal, Anderson University women's soccer could not find the back of the net losing, 2-0, to South Atlantic Conference opponent Newberry Wednesday afternoon.

With the setback, the Trojans drop to .500 in conference play, 3-3, and move to 6-4 overall while the Wolves improve to 4-8 overall and 2-4 in conference action.

Six different Trojans tallied shots on goal for the afternoon with each coming up empty. Newberry's keeper Korina Martinez recorded 10 saves picking up her second win of the year in three starts.

Both Anderson and Newberry got off eight shots apiece in the first half, but the score remained 0-0 after 45 minutes of action.

Following the halftime whistle, Newberry was able to open the scoring up with a goal by Alyssa Ortega to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead with 32 minutes to play. The Black and Gold were able to get off six shots before Newberry struck again on Alyssa Ortega's second goal of the match and her eighth of the season, making the score 2-0 with just under 13 minutes to play. Anderson did not get off another shot during the remaining time losing its third match in a row.

Anderson will return home to welcome SAC opponent Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Trojan Stadium.
