Dow Announces The Addition Of Four Players

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University head women's basketball coach Jeff Dow announced the addition of four players Saturday, including former Florida State player and Pickens, S.C., native Nikki Anthony. Anthony, who graduated from Florida State on Apr. 28, has started graduate school at Anderson. She has one season of eligibility remaining. "We're excited about Nikki's decision to join our women's program," Dow said. "She truly represents what it means to be a student-athlete. She was a phenomenal rebounder and defender during her time at Florida State. We're looking forward to her being a valuable contributor in those areas along with being a low post presence on the offensive end." The 6-foot-3 Anthony played in 94 games for the Seminoles and shot 45 percent from the field. She played on two FSU teams that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Anthony is the only female athlete in Pickens County high school history to have her jersey retired. She led the Pickens volleyball team to four consecutive state titles and was named all-state all four years. She also was a three-time all-state selection in basketball. Anthony, a four-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll, joins an Anderson program that has compiled a four-year record of 109-23 and made four straight trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The three incoming freshmen are Monique Wilhite-Cobb, a 5-foot-11 forward from Dunwoody, Ga.; Alexa Neal, a 5-8 guard from Greensboro, N.C.; and Jasmine White, a 6-0 post from Greenville, S.C. Wilhite-Cobb averaged 10.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, four steals, three assists, and 2.3 blocks per game last season for head coach Angela Nash at Dunwoody. She was an All-Region selection in '06-07 and she led Dunwoody to the state playoffs her last two seasons. "We're excited about Monique's ability to rebound in traffic and her passing skills on the perimeter," Dow said. "We made significant improvement as a team rebounding the ball last season and we think Monique's desire to pursue offensive rebounds will continue to help us in that area". Neal averaged 11.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game for head coach Debbie Jones at Page High School. Neal was a four-year starter and a team captain for two seasons. She scored than 1,000 points in her high school career and led Page to four consecutive trips to the state tournament. "We like the fact that Alexa has the ability to play either guard spot and that she was a very productive rebounder in high school for her size," Dow said. "We're hoping she gives us another perimeter threat to go with our returning guards." White played for head coach Mike Rogers at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va. As a junior, she averaged 16.5 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks, two steals, and two assists per game at Carolina High and Academy in Greenville. She was a three-time all-region selection at Carolina. Her senior year at Oak Hill she shot 54 percent from the field, 79 percent from the free throw line, and averaged 9.5 points and seven rebounds per game. "We're excited about Jasmine making the decision to return to the Upstate and be a part of our program," Dow said. "We believe she has tremendous upside as a low post scorer and will continue to develop her skills facing the basket. She was a key contributor for a national championship team at Oak Hill, so she is accustomed to winning and competing at a high level."
