Langston, Thomas Honored By CVAC

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Deidra Langston of Anderson University capped a stellar senior year by being named the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Player of the Year during the league's annual basketball banquet Thursday night at Pfeiffer University. Langston, a senior from Gainesville, Ga., led the league in scoring at 20.6 points per game. She also averaged 7.8 rebounds, 2.1 steals, and 1.07 blocks per game. Langston shot 48 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free throw line. She had made 10 or more free throws in eight games and was 17-for-18 from the line against Coker on Jan. 25. In 28 games this season, Langston is 191-for-244 from the free throw line. Langston scored 20 or more points in 15 games and had three 30-point games. Her season high was 37 points against Coker on Jan. 25. She has scored in double figures in eight of Anderson's last nine games. She scored 31 points in Anderson's 84-58 victory over Belmont Abbey in the quarterfinal round of the CVAC Tournament Wednesday night. Langston had eight double-digit rebounding games, including a high of 15 against Mount Olive on Feb. 24. In her final regular-season home game on Feb. 22, Langston scored 29 points in a 79-61 victory over Limestone and surpassed the 2,000-point mark for her career. She enters Friday afternoon's semifinal game against Barton with 2,056 career points. Joining Langston on the All-CVAC first team were Raven Truslow and Tamara Clay of Pfeiffer, Jo Denevan of Barton, and Dianca Jones of Lees-McRae. Members of the second team were Danielle Norman of St. Andrews Presbyterian, Helen Moore and Keona Corley of Mount Olive, and Kendra Thomas and Esty Flores of Barton. Anderson's Latrice Thomas received honorable mention honors. Thomas, a junior from Graniteville, S.C., averaged 9.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. She scored in double digits in 14 games. She scored a season-high 20 points against Georgia College and State on Dec. 12. Thomas pulled down six or more rebounds in 21 games. She had a season-high 12 rebounds against Erskine on Feb. 5. Joining Thomas on the honorable mention list were Karen Foggie and Ashley Mitchell of St. Andrews Presbyterian, and Monica Adams and Blanca Gonzalez of Limestone. Flores was named Freshman of the Year, and Pfeiffer's Heather Macy was named Coach of the Year.
