DUE WEST, S.C. -- Anderson University jumped out a 12-0 lead and cruised to a 62-45 victory over Erskine in a CVAC game Monday night at the Belk Arena. Anderson, 17-3 overall and 11-2 in the CVAC, was led by freshman Shadae Thompson with 18 points off the bench. Deidra Langston added 14 points, and Latrice Thomas chipped in 12 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for the Lady Trojans, who are ranked No. 25 in the national poll and No. 3 in the East Region poll. Erskine, 4-15 and 3-11, was led by Kristy Vaughn with 14 points. Erskine rallied to cut Anderson's halftime lead to nine -- 32-23 -- but the Lady Trojans methodically pulled away in the second half. Anderson opened the second half with an 11-3 run for a 43-26 lead with 14:29 to play. A 3-point basket by Thompson at the 8:07 mark gave Anderson its largest lead of 24 points -- 59-35. Thompson was 6-for-9 from the field and was 4-for-6 from behind the arc. Thanks to Thompson, Anderson's bench outscored the Erskine bench, 24-8. Led by Thomas, Anderson dominated the glass, 42-25. Anderson had 15 offensive rebounds while limiting Erskine to just four offensive rebounds. Both teams shot 38 percent from field. The victory moves Anderson into a second-place tie with Pfeiffer in the CVAC standings.
