ANDERSON, S.C. - Senior All-American candidate Deidra Langston scored 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Anderson University to a 79-68 victory over Queens University of Charlotte in a CVAC game Thursday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 18-3 overall and 12-2 in the CVAC, is 10-0 at home this season. The Lady Trojans, ranked No. 20 in the Division II coaches poll and No. 4 in the East Region, play host to league leader Barton Saturday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. Barton, ranked No. 3 in the East Region, leads Anderson by one game in the CVAC standings. Langston, a senior from Gainesville, Ga., was 13-for-19 from the floor and had five rebounds off the offensive glass. Keana Boyd added 12 points and Latrice Thomas had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Anderson. Queens, 4-17 and 1-13, was led by Phylicia Turner with 29 points. Turner was 14-for-16 from the free throw line. She also had seven of Queens' 15 assists. Anderson scored 31 points off 28 Queens turnovers. The Lady Trojans led from start to finish but they never could pull away. Anderson's largest lead of the first half was 14 - 39-25 - with 2:40 to play. After trailing 39-27 at the break, Queens crawled back into the game in the first six minutes of the second half. A 14-4 run by the Royals that featured four layups cut the Lady Trojans' lead to 43-41 with 13:53 to play. But three buckets by Langston and a 3-point goal by Mikala Fogle-Wilson help Anderson push its lead back to double digits - 56-46 - with eight minutes remaining. Queens got no closer than seven points the rest of the way. Anderson shot 53 percent in the second half and 49 percent for the game.
