BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey outscored Anderson University 49-25 in the second half to upset the Lady Trojans 73-55 in a CVAC game Monday night at the Wheeler Center. The loss all but ends Anderson's hopes of repeating as regular-season champions for the third straight year. Anderson, ranked No. 2 in last week's East Region poll, is now 20-5 overall and 14-4 in the CVAC. The Lady Trojans have lost two straight and now trail CVAC leader Pfeiffer by two games with two to play. Anderson led 30-24 at the half, but then the Lady Trojans went cold from the field and Belmont Abbey, 10-14 and 7-11, took advantage. The Crusaders shot 59 percent (17-29) in the second half and made 5 of 7 shots from behind the arc. The Lady Trojans shot just 25 percent (8-32) from the field in the second half. A 3-point basket by Sarah Reese gave Belmont Abbey a 42-41 lead with 13:20 to play. After two free throws by Shadae Thompson gave Anderson a 43-42 lead, Courtney Naquin made a 3-point basket to put the Crusaders up 45-43 with 12:30 to play. Belmont Abbey never trailed again. From that point, Anderson went almost eight minutes without scoring a point. When the drought finally ended at the 4:36 mark, the Lady Trojans trailed 61-43. Belmont Abbey placed five players in double figures -- Naquin 14, Kelsey Daniel 13, Hannah Lunt 12, and Marie Marquez and Amy Mulnix 10 apiece. Anderson's leading scorer was Mikala Fogle-Wilson with 14 points. Keana Boyd added 13 for the Lady Trojans. Belmont Abbey shot 49 percent from the field, while Anderson managed just 32 percent.
