MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- Pfeiffer made four 3-point baskets midway through the first half to take control of the game and went on to post a 67-54 victory over Anderson University in the CVAC Tournament championship game Saturday afternoon. Pfeiffer, 26-4 overall and ranked No. 2 in the East Region, earned its second victory over Anderson in three tries this season. Anderson, 23-7 overall and ranked No. 4 in the East Region, was denied its fourth straight CVAC Tournament title. Anderson led 13-9 with 12 minutes remaining in the first half, but two 3-point goals by Lauren Brittingham and one apiece by Kalee Smith and Tamara Clay gave Pfeiffer a 21-13 lead with 8:36 to play. In the first half, Anderson suffered a field goal drought that lasted almost eight minutes. The Lady Trojans scored just two free throws during the drought. Pfeiffer led 35-27 at the half and built its lead to 19 -- 56-37 -- with 8:16 to play. Anderson got within nine points twice down the stretch but could get no closer. Pfeiffer was led by Brittingham with 16 points, Ashley Crenshaw with 14 points, and Smith with 12. Anderson's leading scorer was Deidra Langston with 16 points. Keana Boyd added 11 points for the Lady Trojans. Langston also was the game's leading rebounder with nine. For the second straight game against the Falcons, turnovers were a problem for the Lady Trojans. Anderson committed 26 turnovers that led to 31 points for Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer shot just 38 percent from the field, while Anderson managed just 33 percent. Pfeiffer outscored Anderson from behind the arc, 21-6. The loss does not end Anderson's season.
