ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first four and a half minutes and went on to post an 82-67 victory in a showdown of CVAC regionally ranked teams. The victory moves Anderson, 19-3 overall and 13-2 in the CVAC, into a three-way tie for first place with Barton, 17-4 and 13-2 and Pfeiffer. The loss snapped Barton's 11-game winning streak. After Anderson's opening run, Barton, ranked No. 3 in the East Region, got within four points - 33-29 - with 2:14 left. But Anderson scored the final five points of the first half to take a 38-29 lead at the break. After Barton got within six points early in the second half, Anderson, ranked No. 4 in the East Region and No. 20 in the Division II coaches poll, went on an 18-8 run for a 60-44 lead with 10:13 to play. Keana Boyd and Haley Riffle had two baskets apiece during the run. Barton cut the Anderson lead to single digits one more time - 70-61 - with 3:35 to play before the Lady Trojans finally put the game away. Boyd scored 10 points in the final 3:20 to help Anderson close out its 24th straight victory at home. Anderson was led by Boyd with 23 points. Boyd was 11-for-11 from the free throw line. Shanice Wilson scored 17 points off the bench, and Deidra Langston added 15 point for the Lady Trojans. Langston had seven of Anderson's 21 steals. Esty Flores led Barton with 21 points. Jo Denevan and Kendra Thomas scored 11 points apiece for the Lady Bulldogs. Genia Holbrook had eight rebounds and five steals for the Lady Trojans. Both teams struggled with turnovers. Barton had 35 turnovers, while Anderson had 32. Anderson shot 50 percent from the field and 81 percent (25-31) from the free throw line. Barton shot 47 percent from the field in the second half to finish the game at 40 percent. Anderson scored 48 points in the paint.
