Lees-McRae Eliminates Lady Trojans, 70-51

BANNER ELK, N.C. - Lindsey Pope scored a game-high 24 points, including two 3-point goals during Lees-McRae's decisive run, to lead the Bobcats to a 70-51 victory over Anderson College in the second round of the women's CVAC Tournament Wednesday night. The victory improves Lees-McRae to 19-9 and advances the Bobcats to Friday's semifinals in Misenheimer, N.C., where they will face top-seeded Pfeiffer on its home floor. The loss ends Anderson's season at 17-12. Lees-McRae led 33-26 at the half, but a 3-point goal by Kelly Latham gave Anderson a 44-41 lead with 11:04 remaining. But after Latham's trey, Anderson's offense went into a deep freeze. Lees-McRae outscored Anderson 26-10 the rest of the way, and the Lady Trojans scored just five points in the final 10 minutes. A three-point play by Deanna Lady gave the Bobcats a 47-46 lead with 10:06 remaining. Lees-McRae never trailed again. Pope, who was 6 for 11 from behind the arc, made two 3-point goals in the final 10 minutes to help the Bobcats pull away. Lady added 14 points for Lees-McRae. Anderson was led by Amy Davidson and Kelly Latham with 11 points apiece. Lees-McRae shot 41 percent from the field to 30 percent for Anderson. The Lady Trojans shot just 27 percent from the field in the second half. Lady pulled down 20 rebounds, six off the offensive glass, to help Lees-McRae dominate the boards, 51-39. Deanna Thompson had 10 rebounds for Anderson. Lees-McRae scored 20 points off 13 Anderson turnovers and outscored AC in the paint, 24-6. Game Statistics Season Statistics
