Segers' Record Night Leads AC Past St. Andrews

ANDERSON, S.C. - Freshman Leann Segers scored a school single-game record 40 points to lead Anderson College to a 96-71 victory over St. Andrews Presbyterian College in a Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference women's game Thursday night at the Abney Center. Segers, a native of Hartwell, Ga., was 15 for 24 from the field and 7 for 12 from behind the arc. She scored 28 points in the first half. Four times this season, Segers has scored 30 or more points and seven or more 3-point goals in a single game. She now has 80 3-point goals in 24 games. Anderson, 14-10 overall and 11-6 in the CVAC, shot 67 percent from the field in the first half to seize a 58-32 halftime lead. The Knights got no closer than 19 points in the second half. Anderson put the game away with a 12-0 run that started four minutes into the second half. Segers made two 3-point goals and a layup during the run. St. Andrews, 5-19 and 3-14, was led by Kebony Thompson with 22 points. Shemika Reed was the only other Anderson player in double figures with 11. Reed also was Anderson's leading rebounder with 11. Deanna Thompson had 10 assists, all in the first half, for Anderson. Anderson shot 54 percent from field and 50 percent (11-22) from behind the arc. St. Andrews shot just 39 percent from the field. Three Anderson players - Reed, Thompson, and Decole Shoemate - had three steals apiece. Led by Amy Miller's 11 rebounds, St. Andrews won the boards, 44-36.
