Lady Trojans Move On, Eliminate Limestone

ANDERSON, S.C. - Amy Davidson scored 20 points, Shemika Reed added 18 and Anderson College shook off a sluggish start to beat Limestone 77-52 in the first round of the women's CVAC Tournament Monday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 17-11 overall, advances to Wednesday's second round to play fourth-seeded Lees-McRae at Banner Elk, N.C. Limestone ends its season at 2-25. Anderson is 1-1 against Lees-McRae this season and eliminated the Bobcats from the CVAC Tournament last season. Limestone used good ball movement and some solid shooting to stay with Anderson for the first 16 minutes of the game. The Lady Saints led 18-13 midway through the first half, but the Lady Trojans battled back to tie the game at 25 with 4:16 left in the first half. From that point, Anderson went on a 23-4 run to seize a 46-29 lead with 17:15 to play. Davidson made two 3-point goals and Michelle Fleck made two field goals to cap the run. A 15-2 run by Anderson starting at the 10:55 mark increased the Lady Trojans' lead to 26 - 69-43. Davidson scored two free throws and a layup during that run. Anderson was 3-0 against Limestone this season and has won six straight against the Lady Saints. Limestone was led by Shell Lowrance with 19, Joy Hyman with 12, and Chimere Sherald with 10. Michelle Trewartha added 15 points for Anderson. Anderson, led by Deanna Thompson's game-high 11 rebounds, won the boards, 38-27. Anderson had 23 assists. Leann Segers had nine assists, and Thompson had six for the Lady Trojans. The Lady Trojans shot 52 percent from the field, 55 percent in the second half while limiting Limestone to 40 percent.
