ANDERSON, S.C. - Deanna Thompson recorded a triple double and Anderson College snapped at tie at 47 with a 19-2 run on its way to an 87-70 upset of Lees-McRae in a Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference women's game Tuesday night at the Abney Center. Thompson had 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists to lead Anderson, 16-10 overall and 13-6 in the CVAC, to the upset of the third-place Bobcats, 17-8, 13-5. Sixteen is the most victories ever recorded by Anderson as a four-year program, and 13 is the most CVAC victories ever recorded by the Lady Trojans since they joined the conference in 1999. Decole Shoemate led Anderson with 24 points. Kelly Latham added 17 for the Lady Trojans, and Leann Segers had 13. DeAnna Lady was Lees-McRae's leading scorer with 24 points. Lindsey Pope added 15 for the Bobcats, while Judy Hardison added 13 points and handed out 13 assists for the visitors. There were six lead changes and five ties in the first half, but the Lady Trojans used a 6-0 run at the end of the half to take a 39-33 lead at the break. The game was tied two more times before Anderson took the lead for good. The Lady Trojans hit the Bobcats with a barrage of 3-point shots - four in a two-minute span - to seize a 66-49 lead with 9:07 remaining. Lees-McRae never recovered from that AC run. The Bobcats got no closer than 13 points the rest of the way. Anderson was 11 for 23 from behind the arc. Latham came off the bench to make 5 of 13 attempts from behind the arc. Anderson shot 48 percent from the field to 42 percent for Lees-McRae. Anderson won the boards, 41-33. Both teams took good care of the ball. Anderson had just 10 turnovers to 12 for Lees-McRae. Anderson entered into Tuesday's game against Lees-McRae tied with Belmont Abbey for fourth place. The Lady Trojans can sew up a first-round bye in next week's CVAC Tournament if they can upset league leader Pfeiffer at home on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Trojans are now 12-0 at home this season.
