Glenville State Eliminates Anderson From Regional

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Glenville State used a 16-2 run during a five-minute span over two halves and a dominant inside game to beat Anderson University 94-76 in the NCAA Division II East Regional semifinals Saturday night at the King Gym. Glenville State, 30-2 overall, advances to Monday night's regional championship game against host and top-seed Charleston. The loss ends Anderson's season at 27-5. "Glenville had a great team and they posed a lot of challenges for us," said Anderson head coach Jeff Dow. "(Rachel) Redick is as good as anybody we have faced. Their posts also gave us a lot of problems." The Pioneers were led by 6-foot-6 Denae Dobbins, who finished the game with 23 points, 14 rebounds, and nine blocks. Redick added 24, and Casey Taylor tallied 21. The Lady Trojans never found an answer to Dobbins. Four Anderson players fouled out of the game - LaShonda Chiles, Deidra Langston, Latrice Thomas, and Genia Holbrook. It was the first time in 99 career games that Chiles has fouled out. Langston, who scored 30 in Anderson's first-round game, played just seven minutes in the first half and 22 total because of foul trouble. Chiles was Anderson's leading scorer with 25. She was followed by Mikala Fogle-Wilson with 15, Langston with 11, and Thomas with 10. "They did a good job of limiting our transition," Dow said. "We weren't able to generate many transition opportunities." Glenville's 94 points was a season high for an Anderson opponent. The previous high was 89 by Concord on Nov. 18. The Pioneers led 29-20 with 7:23 remaining in the first half, but two baskets by Chiles, a 3-point basket by Kim Hausman, and a layup by Wilson tied the game at 34 with 3:34 remaining. There was one more tie at 36 before Glenville State started its 16-2 run. The Pioneers closed the first half with a 10-2 run for a 46-38 halftime lead then scored the first six points of the second half to increase their lead to 52-38. Anderson never got within double digits the rest of the game. Glenville State's largest lead was 20 points - 71-51 - with 8:30 remaining. Glenville State shot 44 percent from the field while limiting Anderson to 37 percent. The Pioneers dominated the boards, 55-30. The Pioneers had 23 assists on 27 baskets. Glenville State was 36-for-43 from the free throw line. Redick was 14-for-14 from the line. "We had a tremendous season and accomplished a lot of goals," Dow said. "We won the regular-season CVAC championship, the CVAC Tournament, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. We have no seniors, so we're excited about next year." 2005-06 Anderson University Women's Basketball Final Statistics
