ANDERSON, S.C. - LaShonda Chiles scored 29 points and Keana Boyd and Mikala Fogle-Wilson added 10 points apiece to lead Anderson University to a 67-63 victory over Barton College in a CVAC women's game Saturday night at the Abney Center. The victory moves Anderson, 14-3 overall and 10-1 in the CVAC, into sole possession of first place in the league. The loss drops Barton to 14-4, 9-2. The game was a tight battle from start to finish between two regionally ranked teams. Anderson is ranked No. 4 in the East Region, while Barton is ranked No. 6. The largest lead by either team in the first half was seven points by Anderson - 15-8 - at the 12:54 mark. There were five ties and five lead changes in the first half. After Barton took a 19-18 lead at the 6:46 mark, Anderson outscored the Bulldogs 13-9 to take a 31-28 lead at the break. The deciding sequence started at the 8:01 mark with the game tied at 49. From that point, Anderson put together a 10-0 run for a 59-49 lead with 4:32 remaining. Latrice Thomas got the run started for the Lady Trojans with two layups. After Genia Holbrook scored on a putback, Boyd drained a 3-point goal, Chiles made a single free throw, and Fogle-Wilson made two free throws. Chiles, a junior from Greenwood, S.C., has now scored in double figures in 62 straight games. Her 29 points equaled her season high. She also scored 29 against Queens University of Charlotte on Jan. 12. A layup by Candice Britton cut the Anderson lead to 64-60 with 14 seconds remaining, but the Bulldogs could get no closer. Barton was led by Keauna Vinson with 18 points and 14 rebounds and Jo Denevan with 13 points and nine rebounds. Between Vinson and Denevan had almost half of Barton's total rebounds (47). Anderson shot 40 percent while Barton managed just 38 percent. Chiles also had seven assists, and Holbrook had four of Anderson's nine steals.
