Anderson Blisters Pittsburgh-Johnstown, 103-86

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University opened the second half with a 15-0 run and went on to beat Pittsburgh-Johnstown 103-86 in a non-conference women's game Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center. Anderson, 19-3 overall and ranked No. 4 in the East Region, was led by LaShonda Chiles, who scored 26 points, handed out six assists, and pulled down six rebounds. Chiles was followed by Deidra Langston with 20 points, Keana Boyd with 17 points, Latrice Thomas with 14, Mikala Fogle-Wilson with 13, and Genia Holbrook with 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Chiles, a 5-foot-2 junior from Greenwood, S.C., has scored in double figures in 67 consecutive games. She needs 98 points to reach 2,000 for her career. Pitt-Johnstown, 16-7, was led by Jessica Zapf with 24 points and a game-high 13 rebounds and Jami Oaks with 23 points. The loss snapped the Lady Cats' five-game winning streak. After seven ties and four lead changes in the first half, Anderson managed to take a 39-38 lead at the break. Thomas got the decisive 15-0 run started with a 3-point goal 21 seconds into the second half. After two baskets by Boyd, Holbrook scored inside, Langston made a short jumper from the baseline, and then Holbrook made another lay up. Chiles capped run with two free throws at the 16:14 mark. The Lady Cats got no closer than 12 points the rest of the way. Anderson led by as many as 22 points midway through the second half. Anderson has won nine straight and 17 of 18. The Lady Trojans have scored 100 or more points in three of their last seven games and 98 or more points in three of their last four. Prior to the game against Anderson, Pitt-Johnstown had not allowed more than 65 points it its last five outings. Anderson scored 64 points in the second half, its highest second-half total of the season. The previous high was 59 against Lees-McRae on Feb. 2. Against Pitt-Johnstown's full-court pressure, Anderson shot 66 percent in the second half (23-35) to finish the game at 50 percent. Pitt-Johnstown shot 47 percent in the second half to finish the game at 44 percent. The Lady Trojans averaged 1.30 points per possession Anderson scored 33 points off 20 Pitt-Johnstown turnovers.
