Erskine Women Upset Anderson, 77-64

DUE WEST, S.C. - Erskine College placed five players in double figures and limited Anderson University to 37 percent from the field to upset the Lady Trojans 77-64 in a CVAC women's game Monday night at the Galloway Center. Erskine, 13-10 overall and 9-7 in the CVAC, used a 16-2 run in the first half to take control of the game. The Flying Fleet led 39-28 at the half and allowed the Lady Trojans to get no closer than seven points in the second half. The loss snaps Anderson's nine-game winning streak. The Lady Trojans, 19-4 overall and 14-2 in the CVAC, suffered through one 10-minute stretch in the first half with just two baskets and never managed to put together any type of run in the second half. Thanks to Pfeiffer's 80-69 victory over Barton at Wilson, N.C., Anderson, ranked No. 4 in the East Region, is still in first place in the CVAC standings. The loss was Anderson's worst defeat since its 88-71 loss to Charleston (W.Va.) in last year's East Region final. Anderson's 64 points was its lowest output of the season. The previous low was 67 in its victory over Barton on Jan. 28. Lisa Jackson led Erskine with 16 points. She was followed by Melissa Woods with 15 points and 13 assists; Anita Owens with 14 points, Chacee Whittington with 13 points, and Garreth Smoak with 11. Woods also was 12-for-14 from the free throw line. LaShonda Chiles led Anderson with 19 points. Deidra Langston added 16, and Latrice Thomas chipped in 14. Rebounding as a big factor in the game. Erskine had 48 rebounds, 16 off the offensive glass, to Anderson's 34 rebounds. Smoak had nine rebounds and Jackson and Whittington had eight rebounds apiece for the Fleet. Erskine was 29-for-39 from the free throw line and outscored Anderson from behind the arc, 24-15. Box: Erskine 77, Anderson 64 2005-06 Anderson University Women's Basketball Statistics
